Project Overview

This interior design and renovation project at The Zen Condominium in Penang was planned around one central idea: making every part of the home work harder for everyday living without compromising its clean, contemporary appearance.

Lambert Design & Build provided an integrated renovation solution covering electrical wiring, plaster ceiling works, air-conditioning, lighting, curtains, kitchen cabinetry, built-in wardrobes and customised carpentry.

Rather than treating each element separately, the interior was coordinated as a complete living environment. Lighting, ceiling details, cabinetry, furniture and storage were planned together to create a more cohesive home while making efficient use of the condominium's available space.

Custom Carpentry Designed Around Daily Living

A major focus of The Zen Condominium project was creating practical storage without making the interior feel unnecessarily crowded.

Custom-made carpentry was designed according to the function and available space of each area. The works included:

Selected carpentry features were finished with curved-edge panels, helping soften the appearance of larger built-in elements and introducing smoother visual transitions throughout the interior.

Kitchen Cabinet & Built-In Cabinetry

The kitchen was designed to balance everyday functionality, storage capacity and a clean contemporary appearance.

Cabinet materials selected for the project included E0 MFC panels, solid plywood and Lamitak HPL, applied according to the requirements and design of the respective components.

For the kitchen worktop, sintered stone was selected to create a refined and practical countertop surface suitable for everyday kitchen use.

Cabinet functionality was further enhanced with BLUM cabinet hardware, including:

• BLUM soft-closing door hinges
• BLUM soft-closing drawer systems

These mechanisms provide controlled and comfortable opening and closing while supporting the overall quality and usability of the cabinetry.

Lighting, Ceiling & Interior Coordination

The renovation scope extended beyond carpentry.

Lambert Design & Build coordinated the home's electrical wiring, plaster ceiling, lighting, air-conditioning and curtain works alongside the built-in elements.

Planning these components as part of one interior scheme allowed the locations of lighting points, ceiling features, air-conditioning and cabinetry to be considered together rather than independently.

The result is a more integrated interior where the technical requirements of the home support the overall design.

Project Challenge

One of the key challenges in condominium interior design is achieving sufficient functionality and storage within a defined floor area.

Adding too many standalone furniture pieces or oversized cabinets can make a condominium feel visually heavy and reduce usable circulation space. At the same time, the homeowners still require practical areas for sleeping, working, dressing, cooking and storing everyday belongings.

Another consideration was coordinating multiple renovation components—including electrical works, ceiling, lighting, air-conditioning, curtains and carpentry—so that they would work together within the completed interior.

Our Solution

Lambert approached the project through integrated space planning and customised built-in solutions.

Instead of relying solely on loose furniture, several functions were incorporated directly into purpose-built carpentry. The custom bed frame, for example, incorporates additional storage, while built-in wardrobes, work desks and dressing areas were designed around their intended locations and functions.

Curved-edge detailing was introduced selectively where appropriate to soften the appearance of the carpentry and create a more refined transition between elements.

The cabinetry material combination of E0 MFC panels, solid plywood and Lamitak HPL, together with BLUM soft-closing hardware, allowed different components to be specified according to their intended application.

By coordinating the cabinetry with the wiring, plaster ceiling, lighting, air-conditioning and curtain works, Lambert was able to approach the condominium as one complete interior project rather than a collection of separate renovation works.
