Project Overview

Located in Farlim, Penang, Pine Residence is a full residential interior design and renovation project centred around customised cabinetry, storage and personalised spaces for the family.

Lambert Design & Build's scope included kitchen cabinetry, a custom TV cabinet, built-in wardrobes for all bedrooms, vanity cabinets for all shower rooms, bedhead features, private lift-area wall panelling, a living-room display cabinet and shoe cabinet.

The built-in furniture incorporates a combination of E0 melamine panels and solid plywood finished with Lamitak HPL, complemented by selected X-Slim glass doors and mirror doors.

Functionality within the cabinetry was further supported by DTC soft-closing door hinges, BLUM soft-closing drawer systems, BLUM AVENTOS lift systems and selected functional accessories for the kitchen and wardrobes.

However, one of the most memorable elements of this home was not the kitchen or living room.

It was a bedroom designed especially for the homeowners' daughter.

A Home Designed Around the Family

Every family uses and experiences a home differently.

For Pine Residence, customised cabinetry was developed throughout the residence to address the practical requirements of the kitchen, bedrooms, living spaces, bathrooms and entrance areas.

At the same time, Lambert wanted the interior to reflect the personalities of the people living there.

This became especially important when designing the daughter's bedroom.

The homeowner shared that their daughter loves Hello Kitty, providing the inspiration for a highly personalised children's room.

Instead of simply introducing a few themed decorations, the idea was developed into the customised furniture itself.

Hello Kitty-Themed Kids Room

The children's bedroom is one of the key highlights of the Pine Residence project.

Inspired by the daughter's love for Hello Kitty, Lambert developed a playful bedroom concept incorporating customised furniture and colours around the theme.

The room features:

• Custom-made Hello Kitty-inspired cushioned bedhead panel
• Custom bed frame
• Coordinated Hello Kitty-inspired wardrobe colours
• Made-to-measure bedroom cabinetry
• A playful colour direction developed around the theme

The objective was to create a bedroom that felt distinctly personal to the child while still functioning as part of a thoughtfully designed home.

Custom Cushioned Bedhead Feature

Rather than relying on a conventional bedhead, a custom Hello Kitty-inspired bedhead panel was created as the main visual feature of the room.

The feature was finished with cushioning, giving the bed area a softer appearance appropriate to the bedroom concept.

Together with the custom-made bed frame and coordinated wardrobe colours, the bedhead helps establish the room's identity immediately.

This demonstrates how custom carpentry can go beyond storage and become part of the storytelling of an interior.

Built-In Wardrobes for All Bedrooms

Beyond the children's room, custom built-in wardrobes were provided for all bedrooms.

Made-to-measure wardrobes allow the storage arrangement to respond to the dimensions and requirements of each room rather than depending entirely on standard freestanding furniture.

Selected wardrobe designs also incorporated mirror doors and functional accessories, adding practical features according to the requirements of the relevant cabinetry.

The children's wardrobe received its own colour treatment to coordinate with the Hello Kitty-inspired bedroom concept.

Kitchen Cabinet Design

Custom kitchen cabinetry formed another important part of the Pine Residence project.

The cabinetry incorporated E0 melamine panels and solid plywood with Lamitak HPL finishes, depending on the relevant application.

Functionality was supported through selected DTC and BLUM hardware together with convenient kitchen accessories.

This allowed the kitchen to combine external design with more considered internal organisation.

BLUM & DTC Cabinet Hardware

Selected cabinetry throughout the residence incorporated:

• Selected wardrobe accessories

Soft-closing hardware provides smoother and more controlled everyday cabinet operation.

For suitable overhead cabinetry, BLUM AVENTOS provides a lift-up opening solution, while the additional accessories help improve organisation and accessibility within the kitchen and wardrobes.

X-Slim Glass & Mirror Door Features

Selected cabinetry incorporates X-Slim glass doors and mirror doors, introducing additional material variation within the custom furniture.

X-Slim glass doors provide a lighter visual treatment for suitable display cabinetry, while mirror doors can combine the mirror function directly with selected wardrobe elements.

Using these features selectively allows different areas to respond to their own requirements without requiring every built-in cabinet to look identical.

Living Room TV & Display Cabinet

The living area incorporates both a custom TV cabinet and display cabinet.

The TV cabinetry provides a purpose-designed focal point for the entertainment area, while the display cabinet introduces dedicated space for displaying selected objects.

Designing these elements as custom-built furniture allows their proportions and finishes to respond directly to the living space.

Private Lift Area Wall Panelling

The project also includes custom wall panelling at the private lift area.

With private lift access, the arrival area becomes an important transition between the lift and the home.

Rather than leaving this purely as a circulation space, wall panelling creates a more intentional entrance experience and introduces the interior design language from the moment the residents or guests arrive.

Vanity Cabinets for All Shower Rooms

Custom vanity cabinets were provided for all shower rooms, extending the cabinetry approach throughout the residence.

Made-to-measure vanity furniture provides dedicated bathroom storage while allowing each unit to respond to its available space.

Providing customised vanities throughout also helps create greater consistency between the functional areas of the home.

Custom Shoe Cabinet

A custom shoe cabinet was included as part of the home's storage planning.

Dedicated entrance storage helps organise frequently used footwear and reduces visible clutter around the arrival area.

By customising the cabinet, its dimensions and finishes could also be coordinated with the surrounding interior.

Project Challenge

One of the key design considerations for Pine Residence was creating customised furniture across many different areas while allowing individual rooms to retain their own character.

The kitchen, living room, bedrooms, shower rooms and private lift entrance each required different types of cabinetry.

Consistency was important, but applying exactly the same visual treatment everywhere would have limited the opportunity to personalise individual spaces.

The daughter's bedroom presented the clearest example.

It needed to feel connected to the overall quality of the residence while also becoming a playful, recognisable Hello Kitty-inspired personal space for the child.

Our Solution

Lambert Design & Build established a core cabinetry specification using E0 melamine panels and solid plywood with Lamitak HPL, while allowing the design treatment to change according to the function and personality of each area.

DTC and BLUM hardware systems were incorporated into suitable cabinetry to support everyday functionality.

X-Slim glass and mirror doors introduced different visual treatments where appropriate.

For the daughter's bedroom, the standard whole-home design language was deliberately adapted into something more personal.

A custom cushioned Hello Kitty-inspired bedhead, made-to-measure bed frame and coordinated wardrobe colours transformed the room into a space developed around something meaningful to its young occupant.

The result demonstrates that consistency in interior design does not require every room to look the same.

A well-designed home can maintain an overall sense of quality while still allowing individual spaces to express the personalities of the people who use them.
